Week 35

Week 35

Baby says:
This week I am a coconut!
I can't believe that my third trimester has passed without a post! So much has happened, I can barely keep track. First, here is a review of some of the different fruits Sofia has been over the last few weeks:
An acorn squash
A pineapple-- that doesn't seem particularly comfy...

And a... jackfruit? What IS that even? And I thought having a pineapple inside me seemed unpleasant...
Over the last few weeks while Sofia has been busy transforming into various spiny fruits, I too have been quite busy...

At 30 weeks, we had some maternity pictures taken by the fabulous and talented  Maritha in downtown Pasadena. I think they turned out quite nice. Here are a few of my favorites:

At 32 weeks,  we had a baby shower! It was a joint effort between my mom and Pat, as well as Mani's Aunt Ester and cousins Erica and Susana. They did a fantastic job! I have to say I was completely blown away! I was especially touched by all of my friends and family who came, most of whom came from a great distance. My Aunt Trish and Uncle Chris came from Seattle, my high school teacher Betsy came from Orange County and my friend Lauren drove up from San Diego. I felt very loved.

We were so blessed-- Sofia has almost everything she needs plus clothes and diapers to last her at least a good six months!

Beautiful diaper cake that a friend of my mother's from work donated to the event

Mani was a good sport and played the clothespin game with us. Pat's daughter Kerri ended up winning-- 17 clothespins in one hand!

Happy family!

Here I am demonstrating a gift from Erica-- it's a bucket that keeps the shampoo out of baby's eyes during bath time

Not sure why I am making this face, but I thought it was cute...
And then this past two weeks, Mani and I have created a little nook for Sofia and organized her things, just in case she decides to arrive before we move.

Sofie, for her part, has been especially active lately, responding quickly to touch and getting especially excited at the sound of her father's voice. Sometimes her movements are so strong, I'm afraid she's just going to bust right out of there! It seems like she's saying, "I'm on my way, ready or not!"

Week 28

Baby says:
This week I am a rutabaga!
"My lungs are now developed, so I could breathe outside if I had to at this point. But I think I'll stay in here for now. Nice and cozy."

It's amazing how fast she is growing! She now weighs 3 lbs! You can tell how much she's grown from the outside as well. It now looks like I've swallowed a beach ball as opposed to a volleyball.
This week marks the beginning of my third trimester. I can't believe we're here already. On the one hand, I feel like I've been pregnant forever. On the other hand, I hardly feel prepared for Miss Sofia's arrival. I don't really have space to start a nursery for her, so right now she has a shelf where her things are collecting. I've had a lot of free time lately, so I've been updating her registry. It's amazing how with all of the checklists and resources out there, I still don't have a firm idea of what she will actually need. Then, once you decide what you really need, you have to do research on it to make sure you get the right one. It's a workout!
In addition to the registry, I've also been working on her hand-made projects. I have started her blanket, although I ended up changing the blue to a gold color. It just seemed to go better.
I also had some time to whip up this little gal.
RazBEARy the Bear Cub

P.S. When I told Mani that our baby was now the size of a rutabaga, he was extremely puzzled, "What is that? Can you eat it?" I realized that I have never actually seen a rutabaga in person before and had previously only thought of it as a funny word, not an actual vegetable.

Week 25

25 weeks already! Time flies when you're making a person, I guess.

Week 25
Baby says:
This week I am an eggplant!

Some new belly pictures:
I also look a little like an eggplant in this picture...

I have also been busy nesting:

Finally finished this baby quilt that I have been working on forever-- before I even knew I was having a baby! For Christmas 2010, my mom and husband surprised me with a sewing machine and I thought I might try my hand at quilting. A full blown quilt was entirely too intimidating to me, but a baby quilt I could handle. I picked up a kit for a baby quilt at Jo-Ann's. I liked these colors, so I went with this one. Now Sofia will have a baby quilt of her own! Admittedly, my cutting skills are not the best, so the quilt ended up quite a bit smaller than originally intended, but I figure it will be good for a stroller or car seat.
My next endeavor is also baby blanket, but a larger one, and knitted this time. I am using Modern Baby Blanket pattern from Mason-Dixon Knitting.
I will be using these colors:

This should give me a blanket that is fresh but still feminine. Stay tuned for progress!

Week 22

Baby says:
This week I am a papaya!

"This week, after much debate, Mommy and Daddy officially decided to name me Sofia. They still can't decide on a middle name, though, so I might not have one until I am born. At least everyone will stop calling me Bean now!"

Cravings this week:
No real cravings this week

Symptoms this week:
Heartburn!
It's getting harder to carry all my weight up the stairs. I think I'm going to need to start using the elevator soon.

Baby Project of the Week:
Still trying to finish a project for my Ravelry swap partner, so my own projects have been put on hold for the time being.

Obsession of the Week:
Registry! After initially opening our registry at BabysRUs with Mani last week, I went with my mom to add things to it. We spent almost two hours looking at all the cute little things. Sofia must have known we were shopping for her, because she was kicking and moving all over the place!

Week 21

Baby says:

This week I am a Banana!
"This is a lot better than that week I was an onion!"
"I am starting to move around a lot more, especially in the middle of the night when Mommy is trying to sleep, but always manage to stop kicking right when Daddy or anybody else tries to feel me. Mommy's clothes are not fitting her as well these days-- she can't button up her coat anymore and looks like an umbrella that won't close."

Cravings this week:
Strawberry Lemonade
Oranges

Symptoms this week:
Trouble sleeping (hence the 1:47am blog update)
Heartburn
General discomfort

Baby Project of the Week:
I am a bit between projects as I am finishing up one job and doing training for the next this week, but I am hoping to at least finish the quilting portion of my baby quilt this week and maybe start on the binding.

Obsession of the Week:
Pintrest! I am not sure how we survived without this, and quite honestly am shocked that I manged to plan a wedding without it. It's the perfect way to waste hours collecting pictures of things I'm not making because I'm wasting hours collecting pictures of them!

20 Weeks and Counting!

We have officially hit the 20 week mark and I felt like that would be a good time to start a pregnancy/ baby blog to keep friends and family updated on the progress of little Baby Cardoza as well as info on her baby shower, registry, and other important details. Since we are about half-way through, here's a quick recap on her journey so far:

October 13th-- Found out we were expecting!
Mani picked me up from work for lunch that day and I told him over enchiladas at Max's in Azusa. He looked like I hit him with a skillet for a few days, but was very excited once he got over the shock!

"I loved you when you were just a line on a stick"

October 24th--Week 5
Baby's first photo!
"Congratulations! It's a... bean?"
November 15th--Week 8
Starting to show a little
December 6th--Week 12
Nuchal Translucency Ultrasound--Screening to make sure everything's ok. Baby passed with flying colors! Starting to look more like a human being now.
"Waving hello!"
December 24th-January 1st--Week 15
Baby's First Trip to Mexico! Baby also had their first baby shower on this trip. Since we didn't know the gender yet, there was much green and yellow. All adorable though! This baby shower also involved feeding my sister-in-law Kenya--and being fed--baby food while blindfolded, playing a baby version of la loteria (essentially Mexican Bingo), and a clothespin counting game, the specifics of which I am still a little fuzzy on. I really appreciated the love and thought that Mani's family and friends in Monterrey put into it.
"Muchas Gracias a Todos--now how are we going to get this all home?!"
 January 14th--Week 17
Felt the first baby kick! I felt it quite strongly after the "Pirates!" dinner theater show my mom and Pat surprised me with for my birthday--I guess baby has a thing for pirates! Or dinner theater.
January 31st--Week 20
It's a girl!
"Not that you can tell from this picture..."
So there it is, weeks 1-20 in a nutshell. I can't believe our baby girl is due in just four short months!
